In the worst case scenario, you’re testing a bunch of products with ads, losing money until you find that one winner.
I’m not saying dropshipping is a bad idea based on that alone… most businesses require you to lose money before you actually make money, so it’s somewhat normal.
But let’s assume you DO in fact have the next fidget-spinner craze product, months before anyone else knows about it…
That’s great! But now you’re gonna need to get people to buy it.
Translation?
- Tens of thousands of dollars in ads
- Tons of time spent split testing to find the best landing page variations, best product descriptions, best ad copy, best ad videos, etc.
Again, some people thrive on that and love it. So if you’re looking for that level of constant testing and gambling, it might be a good fit.
It’s also worth calling out that Facebook has a track record of banning you FOR LIFE from advertising on their platform for dropshipping.
Think about it: it ruins a user’s experience with Facebook when a product shows up 45 days after they’ve ordered it, and is nothing like the product they thought they were buying.

Is Dropshipping Business Still A Viable Business Model In 2024?
Are you worried that there will come a new and better business model in the near future? Only time will tell for sure. But what you should know is that the dropshipping business model has and will be increasingly difficult to gain success from.

Even with that much, it was said that Facebook advertising is rarely effective for an extended period. It will be effective only until your Facebook ad has exhausted clicks.
Your total revenue will be significantly lower, and worse, you may incur a net loss.
According to Forbes, expenses on Facebook ads increase by about 90% year on year.
The learning curve of Facebook ads are steep as the social networking site’s algorithm changes all the time. It will require you plenty of time, money, and patience to learn and test Facebook ads.
Also, without any prior experience with Facebook ads, your ad account can be suspended for breaking Facebook’s rigorous regulations, that increases every day and so it seems.
Customer Service
Dropshipping business requires a significant amount of effort just for communicating with suppliers and of course, with customers.
If the client has a problem with your product, you’ll need to wait for your supplier to assist you in dealing with this.
And if your supplier isn’t any help, you’ll suffer the loss on your own. As a result, many dropshipping stores suffer from negative customer reviews leaving them with very few or no returning customers.
And in the worst-case scenario, expect a high number of credit card chargebacks which may result in your payment gateway being shut down. There aren’t many ways to come back from that.
Time Consuming Product Research
To keep your store profitable, you would need to locate products that have the potential to be a trend to cover advertising expenditures.
Most dropshipping products reach their peak in 1-2 months, if not weeks. This is because there are so many competitors that will steal your product ideas that have the capability to advertise it better or boost their Facebook ad expenditures to outbid you.
So as a result, you’ll need to go out of your way and continue on identifying fresh potential substitute products to generate cash flow.
People who post revenues online and share success stories do not always disclose their profit. Because some may be profitable, but aren’t actually sustainable.

I’ve personally tried all of the major online business models:
- I’ve drop-shipped a toilet-bowl putting green on Shopify
- I’ve drop-shipped jade rollers via Clickfunnels
- I’ve sold fidget spinners through Amazon FBA

And I made money with all of them, so trust me when I say: there is no “perfect” business model.

5) Big Margins: With dropshipping, you’re often going to have really slim margins. That means you need to hit a serious scale to make serious money. This usually entails spending A LOT of money on ads and other methods for growing traffic to your product.
