The biggest issue I’ve seen is that this puts significant stress on your personal relationships, as you’re reliant on selling to your “network.”
Think about it: if you KNEW that every time your friend Sally called, she’d be trying to sell you on one of her products… you’d eventually stop answering Sally’s calls.
Now, this doesn’t mean MLMs are outright bad… it means you need to know what type of MLM you’re getting yourself into before you sign up.

Some MLMs are indeed illegal pyramid schemes. However, I cannot look at 10 companies and generalize. There are thousands of companies that use the MLM business model. Thus, it’s not safe to say that all MLM companies are pyramid schemes.
To make it fair for every MLM company, let’s set a guideline and spot the warning signs that indicate if an MLM company is just an illegal pyramid scheme. Here are some:
- Your income is heavily based on the number of recruitments you made.
- You must buy a particular number of products before becoming eligible for payment and bonuses.
- You have to pay fees over and over again.
- The promoters make bold promises about your potential income.
- The promoters encourage recruitment because it’s “the real way to make money.”
If you recognize some of these red flags, run away.

Yes, there are plenty of other business models to choose from if you want to pursue making money online. Here are just a few:

So, time for the $1,000,000 question: is Multi-Level Marketing a scam?
No, not technically. They aren’t going to run off with your money and not give you what you paid for. It’s 100% possible to make money with this program.
