This review will go over Rev.com to see if it really is the best out there.

You’ll learn whether Work from Home (WFH) is the right online business for you.

At the end of the day, Rev.com is a… unique way to think about making money.

It’s certainly possible to make money with off the wall businesses like this, but unless you’re interested in taking years out of your life to experiment on an unproven business model, I would look elsewhere.

My #1 personal recommendation if we’re talking about starting a fully-online business has got to be the Lead Generation & Ad Agency business models.

There are a handful of programs that teach you the ropes, but my #1 choice that combines both of those business models into one is the Digital Rental Method program

But, if you’re hard pressed to jump head-first into an off-the-wall business model, let’s continue on to our full breakdown of Rev.com!

What Is Rev.Com?

Jason Chicola One Of The Founders Of Rev com

Rev.com is a company established in the United States that offers work-from-home opportunities to people worldwide. The company is well-known worldwide for its opportunities for people who want to work from home on their schedule.

Rev.com, founded in 2010 by Josh Breinlinger and Jason Chicola, has claimed to assist enterprises such as PBS and Comcast by providing transcribing and translation services on TV their programs.

Rev.com was originally known as FoxTranscribe, and rebranded in 2012 as Rev.com.

Rev is famous for creating a sizable market for speech-to-text employment for many years. Rev is licensed in every jurisdiction where it operates, and it’s been featured on sites like the Wall Street Journal and TechCrunch.

Rev.com has also received the PC Mag Editor’s Choice Award for its outstanding achievements in transcribing.

The company’s mission is to improve work-at-home opportunities while satisfying clients and freelancers.

Rev Work From Home Jobs

Earn While Working At Home

Rev is looking for freelancers for the following positions:

  • Transcriptionist: Converting spoken English audio into written text.
  • Captioner: Transcribe spoken English and add subtitles to the video.
  • Subtitler: Add subtitles to videos and translate spoken words on the screen.
  • Translator: For reasons other than video subtitles, translation.

It’s a straightforward approach if you’ve never used online transcription or translation services before.

Rev receives clients’ uploaded audio and video files and subsequently forwards them to the freelancers for transcription or translation.

Basically, you sit at your computer (in a distraction-free area) listening to and typing out speeches on topics you probably don’t care about.

It appears to be simple enough, but you’re frequently dealing with poor audio quality, difficult to understand accents, and multiple voices talking over one other.

If that isn’t your skillset or you’re having trouble getting gigs, there are alternative ways to earn a few extra bucks.

Rev.Com Review: Is Rev Com A Legit Company?

Rev com Is Legit

Rev.com is definitely a reputable website. Many individuals accuse the company of being a scam, but it’s not, as you can see from my and other’s Rev.com reviews.

Rev has strong ties to well-known businesses such as Real Simple, Forbes, The New York Times, etc. Nobody, especially high-profile corporations, wants to be associated with a company they suspect is a fake.

Rev.com offers legitimate employment which is the most convincing evidence that it isn’t running a sketchy operation.

It’s also worth noting that the group was honored with the PC Mag Editor’s Choice Award for their great contributions to transcribing.

Another important point is that any organization engaging in a scam would not have a social media presence or a physical business location the way Rev does.

Thankfully, Rev.com is not trying to scam anyone.

Rev.com has an extremely active social media presence with many followers. They display all their contact information, including their phone number and address.

All this evidence is more than sufficient to demonstrate that Rev.com is reputable and trustworthy to its customers.

Because of the numerous negative reviews, people think the company isn’t legit. There is a lot of talk about how low their pay rate is, but that doesn’t automatically mean that an organization is dishonest.

How Much Do You Make With Rev As A Transcriptionist?

Earn Based On The Amount Of Work Done

With Rev.com, there is no set compensation rate. You’re compensated for what you do and your overall success in it.

  • Captioner or Transcriptionist: $0.4 to $0.75 for every video minute or audio minute.
  • Subtitlers: $3 and $7 per minute.
  • Translator or Writer: Between $0.4 and $0.5 per word

Although not great money, it might be a good source of additional cash.

Just bear in mind that not everyone who works with Rev gets paid equally. The amount you receive may be determined by factors such as:

  • Typing speed and accuracy.
  • The amount of time it took to complete the task.
  • The quality of the work.
  • Ratio of commitment.

These are the primary factors influencing how much you can make a decent money as a Rev transcriber. Apart from these four, a variety of other factors, such as the quality and difficulty level of the audio and video transcription assigned and the number of tasks available at the moment, might influence your pay rates.

How Much Can You Earn In A Month Working At Rev?

Paying Low But Still A Good Side Hustle

Based on the above prices, you may earn anywhere from $18 to $66 per hour or video/audio hour. However, note that typing up and synchronizing the transcription takes longer, so it all depends on how quickly you work.

According to the Rev website, it takes an average individual one hour to transcribe 15 minutes of clear audio, so you’ll need at least four hours of actual labor to finish 60 minutes of audio transcription and earn at least $18. That implies your hourly wage is a mere $4.50 if you do the math. If you’re slower, this will take even longer. Professional transcriptionists can transcribe an hour of audio in about two to three hours.

To give you a sense of how much money Revvers make, one work-at-home mom stated on the Rev page that she earns $1,000 to $1,200 per month, working 40 hours per week. Another Revver, a former truck driver, said he usually accepts 50-75 assignments each week and works for around 25 hours per week. He only makes between $600 and $800 every month.

Rev reports average earnings of around $240, with top earners earning only about $1500.

Reviews And Complaints

Low Pay Rates

As I previously stated, most of the negative evaluations on the internet are due to low pay rates.

People who complain about the lesser salary should remember that they can perform the job from the comfort of their own home, and they have the freedom to establish their own hours and work at their speed. There aren’t many companies that let you do that.

Can You Actually Make Money On Rev As A Typist?

Rev is a legal way to make money online, and it’s a wonderful place to start if you’re serious about a work-at-home lifestyle.

However, you’ll require additional sources of income. The problem with online work isn’t usually the money per hour or the task at hand. It’s the work irregularity and downtime.

Is Rev.com Secure?

Rev.com is a great method to supplement your income while working at home. It provides authentic work-at-home opportunities with reasonable compensation and flexible hours. It gives you a chance to work in the fields of translation and to transcribe audio. However, if you want to run your own company and be a CEO, this is probably not your path.

How Do You Apply To Rev?

Regardless of their geographical location, everyone is eligible to apply to Rev.

For transcription work, the company engages both offline and online freelancers. Rev.com has a rigorous application procedure in light of the company’s reputation.

The entire application process might take up to an hour, and you’ll almost certainly have to complete a series of exams to be deemed a suitable candidate.

Rev uses a three-round screening process in which you’ll be tested on your transcribing, grammar, and typing skills.

The first round puts your typing skills to the test. To advance to the next level, you must have excellent typing abilities. You’ll be given 60 seconds to input as many words as you can. You’ll be judged on the speed and accuracy of your typing. If you pass this one, you’ll go on to the next round–the grammar check.

The next level is a grammar test, in which you’ll be given a video or audio recording to write with no grammatical errors. The primary attributes required to pass this round are excellent grammar and punctuation skills based on the style guide.

The transcribing exam is the final and most important phase of the selection process. This round will have sounds from two speakers. It will be your job to discern between the two speakers and write down what each is saying.

The fact that there’s no deadline is the biggest benefit of this round. However, it’s best you try to complete the exam fast because the number of competitors increases each time.

After applying, you receive an email from Rev.com in one to two business days informing you whether or not you passed the tests.

If you don’t succeed the first time, you can try again after 45 days.

Is Rev A Scam?

Rev com Is Not A Scam

Time for the $1,000,000 question: is Rev.com actually a scam?

I wouldn’t technically call it a scam, though others might.

It’s technically possible to make money with this program, so in that sense it isn’t a scam.

What I’m saying is: after buying, someone will in fact send you a login to a website where you can actually sign up and start working.

But the second, more important question is: is Rev.com actually worth the time investment?

My honest answer is that for most people out there, probably not.

There are countless other business models that are proven & easily scalable, so why risk it for… not an incredibly huge payoff?

I’d rather a program with thousands of successful freelancers & plenty of room for others to join.

If you’ve followed my blog for long, you know I recommend a few different programs depending upon your skills & goals.

My current top choice is using the Digital Rental Method, because you have a proven, systematic path to 6-figures, and you can do it from anywhere you want.

I’ve got friends in there that are posting deals from the middle of the woods in a camper-van with their pet pig… which is kinda cool.

Can You Make Money With Rev.Com?

Digital Landlord Better Than Rev com

You can make money using Rev.com, but if you’re going to put in the time and effort to become a transcriptionist (which isn’t simple), you may as well make some real money.

Some of the same skills are taught in the curriculum that helped me grow my online business to $40,000+ per month, but it shows you how to monetize them in a much, much more successful way.

What Is My Top Recommendation For Making Money Online In 2024?

Digital Landlord Making Real Money Online

Alright, time for me to get real with my lovely readers for a moment:

I’ve personally tried all of the major online business models:

  • I’ve sold fidget spinners through Amazon FBA
  • I’ve drop-shipped a toilet-bowl putting green on Shopify
  • I’ve sold women’s health supplements via Clickbank affiliate marketing

And I made money with all of them, so trust me when I say: there is no “perfect” business model.

THAT BEING SAID: I would at least recommend you implement something that is tried and true, because I’ve seen TOO MANY people (including friends and family) get burned by stuff like work from home schemes.

I’m not saying Rev.com itself is a piece of trash, I’m just saying you need to be very, very careful.

This is a big reason why I only recommend proven, tried and true business models, like Lead Generation & Ad Agencies.

Did rev.com Make The List?

There are a bunch of programs out there that teach you those skills, but my top choice is the Digital Rental Method program.

Why? It has proven leaders with their own 7-figure businesses implementing exactly what they teach you.

I’ve also got over a dozen personal friends in there, so I feel comfortable telling you it works.

Whether you’re a complete newbie, or you’ve been around the block before but have never had that “big win” to propel you forward, their program works.

Here’s Why:

1) Time: If you’ve got a spare hour-or-two each day, you can do this. If you want to drop everything and go all-in, you can do this. More time obviously means faster results, but even putting in a few hours per day is enough to see real success.

And because of that flexibility, you don’t need to trade your time for money. Once the income starts, it’s recurring (for the most part).

That means you can take a month off, travel the country, pursue a passion project, chill on the beach, or charter a boat across the world.

But you can only do that once you’ve created an income stream that doesn’t require YOU to be there all day, every day.

2) Big Margins: With most businesses, you’re often going to have really slim margins. That means you need to hit a serious scale to make serious money.

using the Digital Rental Method, your profit margin is nearly 100%. Watch here to learn how.

Just a reminder: these Digital Rental Properties are worth (at a minimum) $500/mo in semi-passive income. And each time you create another one, your income increases, and the effort put into creating the next property decreases.

Best case scenario, you have properties bringing in over $3,000+/mo on “auto-pilot”.

3) It’s Effectively Copy-Paste: Here’s my favorite part: once you have your first Digital Rental Property up, you can literally copy-paste another version of it and find another willing “renter” in a few days. DOUBLING your income doesn’t get much easier than that…

If you wanted to double your income with Rev.com, you would need about double the hours in a normal day to get through enough audio files. And I can guarantee you, that’s a lot harder than a few clicks & a phone call.

4) You’re Helping REAL People: My biggest gripe with Rev.com is that you’re basically only helping yourself.

But With the Digital Rental Method, you’re helping solve REAL problems that people are ASKING for help with:

Small local businesses around the world need one thing: customers. Without them, their business would fall apart. If we can provide those customers, they’re going to be really happy – and they’re going to pay you for it.

You’re helping a struggling mother or father put FOOD on the table for their families, put their kids through college, or simply live life a little bit more comfortably.

Having this type of impact on the world is what will help you sleep soundly at night.

So, the rest is up to you. You could keep looking at other off the wall business models like Rev.com, and maybe hit it big one day.

You could keep researching and researching for the next few months (or few years), never making a concrete decision.

OR, you can look deep inside, think about those dreams, hopes, & desires, and make the decision to ACTUALLY make it happen, just like it has for thousands of other students before you.

Making a fortune while actually helping real people that need it.
