Alright, so Cybrary doesn’t exactly fit into a nice category.

At the end of the day, insane productivity is a… unique way to think about making money.

It’s certainly possible to make money with off-the-wall businesses like Cybrary. Still, I would look elsewhere if you’re interested in taking years out of your life to experiment with an unproven business model.

My #1 personal recommendation if we’re talking about starting a fully-online business has got to be the Lead Generation & Ad Agency business models.

There are a handful of programs that teach you the ropes, but my #1 choice that combines both of those business models into one is the Digital Rental Method program

But, if you’re hard pressed to jump head-first into an off-the-wall business model, let’s continue to my full breakdown of Cybrary.

What Is Cybrary?

Since its founding in 2015, Cybrary has taken prestigious home honors for its work. To help you “start your career with the cybersecurity and IT development platform,” it offers courses in online cyber security. Despite its specialized nature, the site boasts over 3 million members and over 500 million minutes of video material.

Cybrary wants to teach you cybersecurity fundamentals through workshops, immersive online lab classes, and hands-on experiments, and then take what you’ve learned to the expert level.

How Does Cybrary Work? What Are The Cyber Security Courses?

On Cybrary, you may follow several “career pathways.” Network security and penetration testing are only a few of the many related subjects.

Career paths are collections of information designed to provide the precise knowledge, skills, and talents you’ll need to work in a certain area. Videos, hands-on skill development labs, evaluations, and practice exams are all included in the program.

To start off with Cybrary, you must log in with your username, Facebook, or Google details to create your Cybrary account. You don’t need to key in your credit card information. Next, you confirm that you are not a robot, click on your verification email, and you’re good to go.

Cybrary suggests a few introductory courses for newbies in the industry, such as CompTIA A Network. These are an excellent way to determine whether you want to work in the industry and which path to take.

You can start a course immediately or get your bearings by going to your homepage. You will see your assignments, classes, career paths, bookmarks, and recommendations in the Dashboard.

You are also provided an inbox for any updates and a progress bar for your classes. Although the bulk of Cybrary’s courses is free of charge, they also advertise their premium membership, so you’ll see big banner advertisements constantly urging you to upgrade.

If you just want to browse through the course list, the organization they are associated with filters it, so you’ll find a  subject for CompTIA, Oracle, Azure, Vmware, and so on. Courses are often grouped based on rank, mentor, or career direction.

It can be challenging to find a class with too many options arranged in this manner. The easiest method is to either pick a career path or explore Cybrary’s customized tips for you.

Upon clicking on a course, you will see various informational stats to help you decide whether or not to join. The time—the number of training hours the course provides—as well as the level—beginner, intermediate, or advanced—and a short description of the course are all mentioned.

The instructor profiles’ links are also provided where their other classes and ratings are posted. This way, you can check the number of students enrolled in the course—plus what they have to say about it.

Quite A Few Courses Provide Certificates

You will see what each lesson offers by scrolling through the syllabus. You may also download project files or study guides that are part of the course content. Some courses involve virtual laboratories, which are in-browser and include no downloads—however, these courses are only available to Pro subscribers.

Few courses also provide certificates of completion. The number of CEUs it’s worth is also found on the course page.

Each comprises video training sessions ranging in length from 4 to 10 minutes. You can enable captions, rewind, and skip ahead to various lessons that interest you. You can’t, however, download them.  So, it’s advisable to have a strong internet connection to enjoy an uninterrupted study.

Pricing For Cybrary Courses

Each year, the online courses become more competitive. As a result, the product’s price rises as its demand likewise grows.

Many courses offered by Cybrary are completely free. Insider Pro, which costs $49.50 a month or $33.25 if paid yearly, is an alternative.

You have unrestricted access to video classes, online labs, qualifications reviews, and practice tests with Cybrary Pro. You will also have access to career paths created by experts, live lectures, and a Slack forum where you can network and interact with other cybersecurity mentors and professionals.

This seems to be a smarter choice than the Basic package or free courses, which gives you very limited access to other important courses.

Site Organization & Membership

Cybrary seems to be short in information on their website. For individuals who work with technology, this is a strange occurrence!

The site seems more user-friendly as soon as your email address is entered and verified.

On the page, there is a dashboard where your career paths are posted, including your future courses, assignments, tasks, reviews, and bookmarks.

Overall, the classes are well-organized. They are classified according to the company with which they are affiliated (e.g., Azure, CompTIA, VMware, Oracle) and according to their rank, mentor, and career path.

Other Uses For Cybrary

As part of their Pro membership, Cybrary also provides credential prep for students, helping them prepare for the CompTIA qualification and other certifications.

More than 200 skills testing examinations are also available, and they may help you pinpoint where you need to develop and provide direction for your education.

Career pathways are integrated into the Pro subscription, enabling you to see the learning journey from beginning to end.

Cybrary “collaborates with business leaders and learning specialists to ensure that all career paths give you the expertise you need to launch your career, get a promotion, and receive industry certificates.”

If you are a paying member, you get unlimited laboratories and browser-based scenarios to have hands-on practice without the need for software.

They also have live workshops where you can engage with professors and mentors.

These advisors and instructors are designated to you as you begin the program and will assist you in deciding which profession to pursue; and will provide career guidance by evaluating your CV and improving your interview skills.

Is Cybrary Accredited?

Although Cybrary is not formally licensed, this is not uncommon in online education. They provide certification preparation, and you can obtain your accreditation by taking the official tests and passing them.

However, just because these classes aren’t fully accredited doesn’t imply they are useless. The courses provide you with proficiency in the content material so you can demonstrate in your work—and display that you are motivated and can learn independently, which are attributes that many employers seek.

Cybrary Alternatives

Cybrary Vs. PluralSight

PluralSight, which was created in 2004, is another technology-related course website. They cover a wider variety of subjects, such as Cloud Computing and Programming, but they provide a whole category dedicated to Cyber security.

They include many tools so users can monitor their progress, such as Roles IQ and Skills, including quizzes for every module and the option to take notes while watching it.

Many of their courses often have tasks to complete—real-world examples in which you can produce something to put on your LinkedIn profile or resume.

PluralSight, on the other hand, also offers free subscriptions as Cybrary does. You have a 7-day free trial. When your trial period expires, you would need to pay a monthly fee of $29/month for a standard membership, which includes access to all resources but does not provide certificates.

A paid certificate-earning membership would set you back $499 per year, which is significantly more than Cybrary’s fee of $299.

Cybrary also provides CEUs for some of its courses and has an active group on Slack, as opposed to a small, site-based forum, which some PluralSight users say crashes most of the time.

Cybrary Vs. LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn is a corporate giant, so it’s not shocking that their learning app is a giant too. Once more, they cover a wider variety of topics than Cybrary—a simple search for Cybersecurity yields 685 results, though most of them are more generic, simple overview classes.

Many courses contain exercise files; upon completing them, your certificate is shown on your LinkedIn profile. You can also download courses on virtually any smart device and carry on your education wherever you are and any time of the day and week.

They’re a little less expensive than Cybrary at $29.99/month or $19.99 per month for an annual subscription–and most libraries have free access.

They also have less implicitly free alternatives than Cybrary. You will get a free trial month, but afterward, you must pay to access classes. Most of their courses are also shorter, lasting only 2-3 hours. Cybrary has more in-depth classes, with each course containing multiple hours of instruction.

I wouldn’t technically call it a scam, though others might.

It’s technically possible to make money with this program, so in that sense, it isn’t a scam.

No one is riding off into the sunset with your money, leaving you empty-handed… technically speaking.

But the second, more important question is: is Cybrary actually worth the investment?

My honest answer is that for most people out there, probably not.

There are countless other business models that are proven & easily scalable, so why risk it for… not an incredibly huge payoff?

I’d rather have a program with thousands of successful students & plenty of room for others to join.
