It’s certainly possible to make money with off-the-wall businesses like this. Still, unless you’re interested in taking years out of your life to experiment with an unproven business model, I would look elsewhere.
My #1 personal recommendation if we’re talking about starting a fully-online business has got to be the Lead Generation & Ad Agency, business models.
There are a handful of programs that teach you the ropes, but my #1 choice that combines both of those business models into one is the Digital Landlords program
But, if you’re hard-pressed to jump head-first into an off-the-wall business model, let’s continue on to my full breakdown of home business ideas.
What Are The Pros And Cons Of A Home-Based Business?
An online company may either be your primary source of income or something you do in your spare time. However, the advantage is that you can do it from your own home. When it comes to storing items or hiring workers, many of these home enterprises need relatively little.

- Small business tax write-offs
- Very little overhead costs
- Selling services locally, nationally, or overseas
- Your relatives can help with your business plan
- Your work/life balance is great for stay at home parents
- Converting space in your home for business use
- Creating a home office for inventory if needed
- Disrupting home life
- You could still be subject to business regulations

As a virtual assistant, you wear a lot of hats, and some of the things that you are responsible for doing for your clients are things like:
- Creating Documents
- Answering Phone Calls
- Answering Emails
- Creating Basic Graphic Designs
And that’s not all… in fact, there are some VAs that shoulder the burden of content writing and editing and helping clients get content published on various platforms.
42) Become An Online Freelance Writer
Obviously, everything that you read online has been written by an individual writer or even a team of writers. And for that matter, they are typically paid very well for the content they create. It’s not unheard of to have freelance writers earning anything from a couple of hundred dollars for the articles that they write to as much as a couple thousand depending on the type of article that needs to be written.
So the more experience you have, the more money you can make.
Of course, the most difficult part of this is getting your foot in the door and landing your first couple of jobs. Now there are places that you can go to in order to get the ball rolling. Places like Upwork and Fiverr are good ideas to get started.
You could also take a look at this article by Jamie Cattanach about How To Become a Freelance Writer. Jamie has been in the industry for years and doing quite well for herself as a freelance writer. If you would like to research the topic, you check out EarnMoreWriting.com.
43) Start An Online Store
Back in the horse and buggy days, when you wanted to sell something, you typically had to have a physical store where local people could walk into and see what it is you’re selling. Now, you don’t need a physical location, and you can sell items all over the world.
No matter what you’re marketing… whether it be custom jewelry or your Grandmother’s favorite chocolate chip cookies, you can always find someone who will buy what you’re selling.
If you go to this site called MyWifeQuitHerJob.com, Steve Chou talks about a course he created in which he shows people his step-by-step process of creating an online store that allowed his wife to quit her job. Now, both of them work together and make over six figures from their online business.
44) Piece Together Some Micro Jobs
Before platforms like Fiverr came out, finding a good-paying gig was like finding a needle in a haystack… now, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. With this site, you have a new way to get the work you want or hire someone to do work for you. As the name suggests, you can land some jobs for as little as $5 depending on how basic the task is, but if you are more advanced at what you do, you can land some pretty high-paying clients.
The beauty of this is that you can do most if not all of these smaller jobs from home.
45) Write And Publish An E-Book
Since just about anyone can get their work published online these days, making a good living from home by writing e-books is becoming more and more popular. 46) Get Paid To Shop
Did you know that it’s possible to earn money while you’re shopping online? You see, there are online stores that want as many eyes on their products as possible, and they are willing to pay quite a bit for that. So, this could be a way for you to earn some extra spending money from home.
These are called “Cash Back” sites, for example, Rakuten.com.
The way it works is like this…
Rakuten will partner up with stores like Target or BestBuy, and when you buy something from Rakuten’s website, they will receive a commission from Target (or BestBuy). But instead of keeping all the commission for themselves, they will pass the majority of that commission on to you. So, in essence, you earn while you shop.
Side Gig Ideas You Can Do From Home
47) Join A Food Delivery Service
Have you ever worked full-time or even part-time for a Pizza delivery place? On a busy night, you can make a boatload of cash when it gets really busy, especially on the weekends or during sporting events on TV.
But what if the pizza place doesn’t get enough orders on the rest of the nights of the week to justify hiring someone even part-time.
This is where the next great business idea comes into play.
With Food delivery, you and the restaurants get the best of both worlds. With companies like DoorDash and UberEats, you can pick up and deliver food on your own schedule, and the restaurants don’t have to worry about hiring (or firing) employees.
Whenever an order comes in, you will get an alert on your phone that you have a delivery to pick up. You have about a minute to accept the order. Once you’ve accepted to order, you head out to the restaurant to pick it up and deliver. The trick is to make as many deliveries as possible in the shortest time possible.
48) Care For Elders In Your Community
Do you have a special place in your heart for the elderly who need special care? As a work-from-home eldercare specialist, you would essentially make “house calls” to the elderly on a daily basis to help them with anything they need, from something as simple as making their favorite meal to providing handyman services around their home.
If this sounds like something that you could do, it could become a lucrative profession, and the word of mouth exposure you would get through social media would save you in advertising costs on sites like Care.com.
49) Drive For Uber Or Lyft
If you are taking into consideration driving for companies like Uber or Lyft, then just know that you will be required to leave home for extended periods, and you will likely need to have a newer and more reliable vehicle that meets quality standards.
However, the beauty of this is that you can work as many or as few hours in a day as you like for as many days in a row as you want. In addition, you can also work with both platforms (Uber and Lyft) simultaneously.
Now, the pay can be a little less reliable at times, given the different rates between the two platforms, but the tips you receive from happy customers can add up pretty quickly.
Home-Based Business Ideas That Highlight Specific Skills
Of course, it has to be said that there are a handful of home-based business ideas that require some degree of expertise, a specific skill-set, or a certain amount of experience. If you have a certain degree of knowledge in a given field or a few years of experience on your resume, then you could be a candidate for the following home-based business ideas:
50) Teaching Music Lessons
We can all remember when we first started taking music lessons as a kid. We would go to our teacher’s home once a week for a short, in-person 25 minute25-minute lesson and a quick 5-minute review (with milk and cookies) of the next lesson. She was a stay-at-home mom with the spirit of an entrepreneur who loved people and had many clients, so I’m sure that this is a great way to start a home-based business.
51) Start A Voiceover Business
Have you ever listened to that guy or gal on the radio and thought to yourself, “They have such an awesome voice.” Or you’ve heard that guy that speaks during a movie trailer describing what the movie is about. These people are called voice actors or voiceover artists.
And it’s a huge business.
If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, then there are a few ways for you to get your foot in the door by considering a few of the following:
- BackStage.com: This site provides a never-ending list of jobs in the entertainment industry
- Kidcasting.com: This company constantly looks for kids to fill roles in commercials, TV, and movies.
- Mandy.com: Mandy lists jobs for voice acting for TV, film, and the music industry.
52) Teach English To Overseas Students
I had an English teacher in high school that everyone loved, and we were all sad to see him go when he retired. A few years later, I ran into him at the grocery store and chatted him up about what he was up to lately. He told me that he was teaching English again. When I asked him where he told me, “in China!”
You see, his job actually had him working from home, but he would get on Zoom calls with his Chinese students online. It was enough to keep him busy but not too much that he couldn’t enjoy his retirement.
Isn’t technology grand!
53) Become A Grant Writer
As a grant writer, you would research and draft proposals for individuals, small technology companies, and large organizations to receive grant funding. To receive that funding, you would need to write the grant in such a way that would clearly show how the business’s objectives coincide with the grant’s specifications.
The vast majority of qualified grant writers will have a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or Journalism.
My #1 Recommended Home Business Model
Alright, time for me to get real with my lovely readers for a moment:
I’ve personally tried all of the major online business models:
- I’ve sold fidget spinners through Amazon FBA
- I’ve drop-shipped a toilet bowl putting green on Shopify
- I’ve sold women’s health supplements via Clickbank affiliate marketing
And I made money with all of them, so trust me when I say: there is no “perfect” business model.
THAT BEING SAID: I would at least recommend you implement something that is tried and true because I’ve seen TOO MANY people (including friends and family) get burned by stuff like home business ideas.
They come out of left-field with some random idea, make it seem attractive, and then make themselves a quick buck by luring in unsuspecting people.
I’m not saying home business ideas itself is a piece of trash; I’m just saying you need to be very, very careful.
This is a big reason why I only recommend proven, tried, and true business models, like Lead Generation & Ad Agencies.
There are a bunch of programs out there that teach you those skills, but my top choice is the Digital Landlords program.
Why? It has proven leaders with their own 7-figure businesses implementing exactly what they teach you.
I’ve also got over a dozen personal friends there, so I feel comfortable telling you it works.
Whether you’re a complete newbie or you’ve been around the block before but have never had that “big win” to propel you forward, their program works.
1)Time: If you’ve got a spare hour or two each day, you can do this. If you want to drop everything and go all-in, you can do this. More time obviously means faster results, but even putting in a few hours per day is enough to see real success.
And because of that flexibility, you don’t need to trade your time for money. Once the income starts, it’s recurring (for the most part).
That means you can take a month off, travel the country, pursue a passion project, chill on the beach, or charter a boat across the world.
But you can only do that once you’ve created an income stream that doesn’t require YOU to be there all day, every day.
2)Big Margins: With most businesses, you’re often going to have really slim margins. That means you need to hit a serious scale to make serious money.
Being a Digital Landlord, your profit margin is nearly 100%. Watch here to learn how.
Just a reminder: these Digital Rental Properties are worth (at a minimum) $500/mo in semi-passive income. And each time you create another one, your income increases, and the effort put into creating the next property decreases.
Best-case scenario, you have properties bringing in over $3,000+/mo on “auto-pilot”.
3)It’s Effectively Copy-Paste: Here’s my favorite part: once you have your first Digital Rental Property up, you can literally copy-paste another version of it and find another willing “renter” in a few days. DOUBLING your income doesn’t get much easier than that…
If you wanted to double your income with home business ideas, you must work hard. And I can guarantee you that’s a lot harder than a few clicks & a phone call.
4)You’re Helping REAL People: My biggest gripe with home business ideas is that you’re basically only helping yourself.
But when you’re a Digital Landlord, you’re helping solve REAL problems that people are ASKING for help with:
Small local businesses around the world need one thing: customers. Without them, their business would fall apart. If you can provide those customers, they’re going to be really happy – and they’re going to pay you for it.
You’re helping a struggling mother or father put food on the table for their families, put their kids through college, or simply live life a little bit more comfortably.
Having this type of impact on the world is what will help you sleep soundly at night.
So, the rest is up to you. You could keep looking at other off-the-wall business models like home business ideas and maybe hit it big one day.
You could keep researching and researching for the next few months (or a few years), never making a concrete decision.
OR, you can look deep inside, think about those dreams, hopes, & desires, and make the decision to ACTUALLY make it happen, just like it has for thousands of other students before you.
Making a fortune while actually helping real people that need it.
