In this review, I’ll talk about whether buying leads from Angie’s List is the right way for you to build your contracting business.
Alright, so Angie’s List doesn’t exactly fit into a nice category.
At the end of the day, buying lead is a… unique way to think about making money.
It’s certainly possible to make money with off-the-wall businesses like this, but unless you’re interested in taking years out of your life to experiment with an unproven business model, I would look elsewhere.
My #1 personal recommendation if we’re talking about starting a fully-online business has got to be the Lead Generation & Ad Agency business models.
There are a handful of programs that teach you the ropes, but my #1 choice that combines both of those business models into one is the Digital Rental Method program
But, if you’re hard pressed to jump head-first into an off-the-wall business model, let’s continue to my full breakdown of Angie’s List.
Angie’s List Overview
Angie’s List has been around for a long time and has a lot of history behind it.
First, I had a nice experience with my company being listed seven years ago. However, I’d heard from others that Angie’s List had some solid leads, so I searched for local businesses with experience.
Does Angie’s List get them good-quality leads?
- It seems some companies had a lot of success with Angie’s List, and they also worked hard to get reviews.
- I strongly suggest owning your lead-generation systems by creating a website or other marketing methods rather than using a third party.
About Angie’s List
Rumors abound that the business publishes fake customer reviews. Several huge companies get an “A” rating despite only having one review. Trusting the service provider and finding a trustworthy contractor becomes more difficult.
Angie’s mission is to connect individuals with reputable contractors for home improvement projects. It is possible to see customer opinions about the company posted by individuals in your neighborhood. You may get a refund if you’re not happy with the product. According to Angie’s List, more than 150 million people have used the service.
Pros:
- On Angi, people can find a construction company for home improvement.
- People are free to use it and have the convenience of a mobile app.
- There are also verified reviews and financing available.
Cons:
- However, there are some complaints about phone calls and emails not being answered by the company.
- Customer service is only available on weekdays by phone.

Angie’s List Bad Reviews:
Angie’s List has a bad reputation among certain consumers. People claim that Angie’s List is either a legitimate company or a hoax. Some individuals believe Angie’s List has a skewed reputation because they get compensation from the companies they rank.
Jeff Blyskal, a Sr. Editor for Consumer Reports, says that Angie’s List makes a big point to say they are consumer-driven. But he says that 70% of their revenue comes from advertising. This means that they advertise the companies they rate on the site.
This can make it hard to find out which company you want to hire because you will only look at the first few pages of companies who advertise with them. They are not honest and straight with people about this issue.
Angie’s List Bogus Reviews?
The Consumer Federation of America had a statement about this. They said, “Angie’s List gives better treatment to advertisers, and people think that these advertisers are the best ones” in early 2019.
The group found shreds of evidence that the site has bogus good reviews. Many large businesses have an “A” rating, even though they only have one review. This makes it difficult for people to trust the site and find reliable contractors.
Poor Customer Service?
One user, Cory from Forest Lake, Minnesota, had a problem when he tried to remove his plumbing company profile from Angie’s List. He said that he closed it because of an accident. But when he tried to take it down, they wouldn’t let him.
They said that the plumbing company is closed and won’t delete it. This is a warning for other people trying to get their profile off Angie’s List: don’t waste your time or money with them!
A user from Howell, MI, said he got bad service from Angie’s List. They could not finish the job, and after many phone calls, they did not come back when they were supposed to.
The poor communication caused the customer to pay more than expected for the work.
Angie’s List Plan Pricing
If you want to sign up for Angie’s List, you must pick a plan. There are three plans.
- The free Green membership plan lets you look at nationwide ratings and reviews, access service pros, and receive a digital magazine.
- The Silver plan costs $25 each year. It includes reviews, a magazine, guarantees for quality service and fair prices, access to an online guide that tells you what things should cost (the “Bluebook”), and project scheduling tools.
- The Gold membership plan is $99.99 a year. It includes the perks of the Green and Silver plans, plus more. Complaint resolution, “handy chat,” access to emergency line service, instant hire, and eCommerce savings are all included.
The Difference Between Home Advisor And Angie’s List
Home Advisor is a little more expensive than Angie’s List. It costs about $300 per year and sends you higher-paying jobs. Most people recommend Home Advisor for big projects, not small ones. But even then, you pay a fee each time you get a new lead from them.
Angie’s List doesn’t charge you a fee, so you can get plans that fit your needs. There are ads you can buy to make your handyman business more visible. For small jobs and projects, Angie’s List is better than HomeAdvisor.
Try to google them to see much more difference.
Is Angie’s List Worth It For Contractors?
Some people think that Angie’s List is no good. But others have found it to be a good place to find professionals for your business.
You need to make sure that you weigh the pros and cons of signing up before doing it and know what you are getting into.
Overall, Angie’s List has been helpful for some people, but be careful because there could be problems also.
Tips For Angie’s List
If you want to use Angie’s List, here are some tips for how to do it:
- Keep track of your leads from Angie’s List. Make sure that your investment in Angie’s List is worth it. Track where your customers or clients are coming from by using their phone numbers and ensure they’re coming from a good place!
- Get recent customers to write reviews of your business on your site by giving them a small rebate if they do so.
- Respond to messages quickly when people message you on Angie’s List to ensure a positive experience. Otherwise, the person will not want to do business with you anymore.
- If you get a bad review, try to resolve the issue and sincerely apologize. If you do, then the review will be deleted, and the customer will be asked to update their review. Any contractor can get a poor review at some point in time. What separates the good contractors from the bad ones is how they handle those unflattering reviews.
Alternatives To Angie’s List?
Yes, there are plenty of other business models to choose from if you want to pursue making money in 2022. Here are just a few:
Is Angie’s List Legit?
Time for the $1,000,000 question: is Angie’s List actually legit?
I wouldn’t technically call it legit, though others might.
But the second, more important question is: is Angie’s List actually worth the investment?
My honest answer is that for most people out there, probably not.
There are countless other business models that are proven & easily scalable, so why risk it for… not an incredibly huge payoff?
I’d rather have a program with thousands of successful students & plenty of room for others to join.
If you’ve followed my blog for long, you know I recommend a few different programs depending on your skills & goals.
My current top choice is using the Digital Rental Method because you have a proven, systematic path to 6-figures, and you can do it from anywhere you want.
I’ve got friends in there posting deals from the middle of the woods in a camper-van with their pet pig… which is kind of cool.
What Is My Top Recommendation For Making Money In 2022?
Alright, time for me to get real with my lovely readers for a moment:
I’ve personally tried all of the major online business models:
- I’ve sold fidget spinners through Amazon FBA
- I’ve dropshipped a toilet bowl putting green on Shopify
- I’ve sold women’s health supplements via Clickbank affiliate marketing
And I made money with all of them, so trust me when I say: there is no “perfect” business model.
THAT BEING SAID: I would at least recommend you implement something that is tried and true, because I’ve seen TOO MANY people (including friends and family) get burned by stuff like Angie’s List.
They come out of left field with some random idea, make it seem attractive, and then make themselves a quick buck by luring in unsuspecting people.
I’m not saying Angie’s List itself isn’t legit; I’m just saying you need to be very, very careful.
This is a big reason why I only recommend proven, tried and true business models, like Lead Generation & Ad Agencies.

There are a bunch of programs out there that teach you those skills, but my top choice is the Digital Rental Method program.
Why? It has proven leaders with their own 7-figure businesses implementing exactly what they teach you.
I’ve also got over a dozen personal friends in there, so I feel comfortable telling you it works.
Whether you’re a complete newbie or you’ve been around the block before but have never had that “big win” to propel you forward, their program works.
Here’s why:
1)Time: If you’ve got a spare hour or two each day, you can do this. If you want to drop everything and go all-in, you can do this. More time obviously means faster results, but even putting in a few hours per day is enough to see real success.
And because of that flexibility, you don’t need to trade your time for money. Once the income starts, it’s recurring (for the most part).
That means you can take a month off, travel the country, pursue a passion project, chill on the beach, or charter a boat across the world.
But you can only do that once you’ve created an income stream that doesn’t require YOU to be there all day, every day.
2)Big Margins: With most businesses, you’re often going to have really slim margins. That means you need to hit a serious scale to make serious money.
using the Digital Rental Method, your profit margin is nearly 100%. Watch here to learn how.
Just a reminder: these Digital Rental Properties are worth (at a minimum) $500/mo in semi-passive income. And each time you create another one, your income increases, and the effort put into creating the next property decreases.
Best-case scenario, you have properties bringing in over $3,000+/mo on “auto-pilot.”
3)It’s Effectively Copy-Paste: Here’s my favorite part: once you have your first Digital Rental Property up, you can literally copy-paste another version of it and find another willing “renter” in a few days. DOUBLING your income doesn’t get much easier than that…
If you wanted to double your income with buying leads, you would need to exert time and effort. And I can guarantee you that’s a lot harder than a few clicks & a phone call.
4)You’re Helping REAL People: My biggest gripe with buying leads is that you’re basically only helping yourself.
But With the Digital Rental Method, you’re helping solve REAL problems that people are ASKING for help with:
Small local businesses around the world need one thing: customers. Without them, their business would fall apart. If you can provide those customers, they’re going to be really happy – and they’re going to pay you for it.
You’re helping a struggling mother or father put food on the table for their families, put their kids through college, or simply live life a little bit more comfortably.
Having this type of impact on the world is what will help you sleep soundly at night.
So, the rest is up to you. You could keep looking at other off-the-wall business models like buying lead and maybe hit it big one day.
You could keep researching and researching for the next few months (or few years), never making a concrete decision.
OR, you can look deep inside, think about those dreams, hopes, & desires, and make the decision to ACTUALLY make it happen, just like it has for thousands of other students before you.
Making a fortune while actually helping real people that need it.
